Dare to Recover Autism
There has been no greater challenge of faith, hope and waiting than in the recovery of our boys from autism. If you are currently caught in this place of shock and confusion, I get it! The feeling of loss, anger, sadness and desperation is more than anyone can fathom, but especially when it involves your precious baby. The questions of “why me God” and “how dare this happen to a child of God” are more than any parent can bear. The moment our oldest son (now 7) was given that label of autism I fell into a place of determination, research and more importantly HOPE. Trusting that God did have a plan, I just wasn’t privy to it yet. God kept that close to his heart so that our family could be stretched and molded and now be a light for others. Caution: We feel you can reverse many of the toxins and chemicals in the body that trigger autism. We do not subscribe to the western view that autism is solely genetic or “random”, if you do not agree, please stop reading now. I will not publish your negative comments.
“Yet hope returns when I remember this one thing: The Lord’s unfailing love and mercy still continue, fresh as the morning, as sure as the sunrise. The LORD is all I have, and so in him I put my hope.” Lamentations 3:21-24
Pain is part of life and there is no escape. We can be bitter or hopeful…the choice is yours. When we place our hope in man, it is clearly a dead end, instead place our hope in God and the sky is the limit!
The longer you focus on what depresses you, the longer your depression will last. Bitterness keeps you caught in your own pain…How can you have hope even in your darkest days? By remembering that “The Lord’s unfailing love and mercy continue.” You can count on that! God’s mercies are as “fresh and the morning” and “as sure as the sunrise.” He is all you need. And, no matter what, you can put your hope in him.
You’ll never know that God is all you need until he is all you have. Are you there yet? (Pastor Rick Warren)
There we were in a place of pain, anger and certainly no hope nearly 6 years ago. It took me the absolute gut-wrenching desire to heal my son and prove all the “doctors” wrong that gave me a glimmer of hope.
Waiting on God
Truly one of the hardest phases of autism is waiting. Waiting on God to fulfill his purpose and answer our prayers. We forget to remember that God can do miracles!
One of my favorite old hymns is “count your blessings” and I had to remember the many blessings God gave me all thru my life; it is what prepped me for the situation I was facing with autism. I even thanked God in advance for the healing he was going to bring my son. Because God is capable of the unfathomable.
“But when you pray, you must believe and not doubt at all. Whoever doubts is like a wave in the sea that is driven and blown about by the wind. If you are like that, unable to make up your mind and undecided in all you do, you must not think that you will receive anything from the Lord.” James 1:6-8
Wow, talk about a wake up call for us all, and especially in our recovery process. There was doubt in the doctors we placed our trust in, the cry in my heart for my boy who was NOT THERE, the therapists, the financial burden and the constant research, research, research that was like a rabbit trail leading to more treatment options. It was enough to make a parent absolutely crazy!
“Faith is a verb. It is active NOT passive. Faith is not something you believe, it is something you do. You have to make up your mind and step up the pace.” (Daring Faith)
When a family decides to take the leap of faith and recover many of the “symptoms” or (root causes) of autism it takes a tremendous investment in finances, energy and time, and if you have support from family and friends you are truly lucky because they often just do not understand. Which is why finding those who are like-minded and will support and encourage you is critical.

I often get asked from those I mentor in this process what the timeline of recovery was and also when we started to see improvements. For the first part, we started our journey when big brother was 18 months old and he lost his diagnosis when he was 5.
I personally feel it is a huge benefit to start early. But as I have written about before, you have to first accept there is something to recover. You have to be “ready”. No one can force that and for many the years pass and the child becomes older and older.
In terms of when we started to witness changes, it was initially about 6 months into some basic bio-medical approaches (DAN protocols), dietary changes (GAPS) and herbal remedies that was saw small incremental improvements. We plateaued though and committed to prayer that God would open the door to something we were missing. You can search and search, but if God is not ready to share it with you, then it is just not the right time and so waiting begins…
It was right about when big brother was 3 1/2 that we became dissatisfied with the public school district offerings of social skills and speech and were introduced to a private friendship building program that specifically targeted in “real world” strategies our son’s deficiencies in relating to peers. This was a game changer in the level of respect he deserved and also the small class sizes.
At that same time we found our Homeopathic Doctor who was probably the most critical piece of the puzzle. There are hundreds of theories in what causes autism and consequently what can be used to reverse the condition. Throw in just as many prominent doctors who believe they have the proper technique, and what are we supposed to choose?? We had stopped seeing results with the bio-medical (DAN) approach and homeopathy just made sense to us. Plus we knew our son’s root cause was heavy metals. The only approach I felt was safe and effective to pull the metals out one by one was with homeopathy. Within 6 months of starting a new program our son was a different child. It was remarkable to witness each of those toxins and chemicals come out and be released by the body. Of course I now ask people. “why would you place those toxins in your body to begin with?”
We then added in camel’s milk to restore the leaky gut syndrome and essential oils (be selective, there is only one brand we trust) to really target some major systems in the body and focus. (now you really think I am crazy! Yes Camel’s make milk) We saw immediate positive changes. I will caution you to research heavily essential oils, as there is a very small scope of oils on the market that are actually pure and once we started using certain ones the difference was striking. I am happy to share our regimen and what we trust as a family.
Little by little we rapidly saw the cloud lift over him. We had our boy back! And western medicine can shove their “doom and gloom” approach, because my boy is the face of autism recovery!
Setting a FAITH Goal
“I know that I have not yet reached that goal, but there is one thing I always do. Forgetting the past and straining toward what is ahead, I keep trying to reach the goal and get the prize for which God called me through Christ to the life above.” Philippians 3:13-14
What is your prize?! You son, daughter, nephew or friend? God has you and them in his hands and he is sailing the ship. Thank him for the blessing he WILL restore to your life, because he will in his way and his time.
